Fr. John Mamangakis

Fr. John was born in New York and is the son of Prevytera Stella (Kouzoucas) and the late Fr. George Mamangakis. He was raised in New Jersey, the oldest of four children including two sisters, Harriet (Martinez) and Georgia, and a brother, Steve. He met Melissa Ballos in GOYA and they were married in 1980. Fr. John and Presvytera Melissa have three children, Christina (married to Thomas Evans), George and Marina. Both daughters reside in the New York area while their son lives in Boca Raton, FL.

Prior to attending seminary, Fr. John spent 34 years as a hospital administrator in New York and New Jersey. After his studies at Rutgers University, where he earned an undergraduate degree in accounting and business, he undertook graduate studies at Temple University where he earned his MBA. He subsequently worked at NYU Medical Center, St. Barnabas Health System and Sound Shore Health System.

In 2007, Fr. John began part-time studies at St. Stephens House of Studies in preparation for the diaconate. Soon after, he also enrolled in the diaconate program at Holy Cross Seminary in Boston. Upon his ordination in 2010, he was assigned to the parish of Holy Trinity in New Rochelle, NY where he assisted in youth ministry, home/hospital visitation, catechism and the sacramental life of the community.

In 2013, Fr. John resigned from his hospital duties to undertake full-time studies towards the priesthood. He began his studies at St. Vladimir Seminary in New York and completed them at Holy Cross where he earned a Master of Divinity in May 2015. In February 2015, he was ordained into the priesthood by His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios at the chapel of Holy Cross Seminary. Immediately after graduation, he made a pilgrimage with the senior class of the seminary to visit His All-Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew in Constantinople with visits to Mt. Athos, Rome and Thessaloniki where he undertook intensive Greek lessons.

Fr.  John was assigned to St. Nicholas in 2015.
